Here’s a few of the projects I’m involved in outside of work…
Side project: The Web Strategy Guide
In 2010 I signed up to The Media Trust to help some charities to use the web effectively. It became clear to me that there’s a huge web industry profiting from creating as much confusion as possible about how organisations can use the web to reach and engage their target market. TheWebStrategyGuide.com is a work in progress, but I eventually hope to fill it with free useful, practical, hints and tips that organisations can use on the web, without spending £20,000 on a video hosting package that they don’t need.
Side project: Various websites that generate advertising revenue
To demonstrate that I do know something about my field, in my spare time I have created a number of websites that generate revenue from advertising. Hire me and I’ll show you how.
Side project: Extrageographic
I created the extrageographic.org website for love, not money. In 2002 I used it to experiment with the web. In 2011 I occasionally use it as place to write about things that won’t fit elsewhere, or to showcase interesting stuff that others have created.
Side project: Photography
The BBC trained me as a multi-media journalist, which included teaching me how to take and edit photos. I enjoy it, and take too many. My photos have appeared all over the BBC website, even on its front page, on TV, in newspapers, on the front of art gallery booklets etc.
Side project: Writing & illustration
I enjoy trying to combine writing, illustration and ideas. My cartoons have purchased by; Oxford University, Taylor & Francis, World Wildlife Fund. Seen on BBC TV etc.
